Professor Gilbert Reaney 1924-2008 was a leading
scholar of medieval and Renaissance music, literature and music theory, and in
1964 the first recipient of the Dent medal of the International Musicological
Society. He studied Music and French at Sheffield University, from 1953 held
research fellowships at the Sorbonne, Reading and Birmingham Universities, and
from 1961 spent 36 years in the United States as a professor at the University
of California, Los Angeles. As an established authority on medieval
musical sources and was an obvious choice for editor of the two volumes
dedicated to early music manuscripts published in the Repertoire International
des Sources Musicales series of Catalogues (1966-1969). 427 Pages in total
