****A RARE 1930's PHONE FROM GERMANY****
This is a rare 1930's table-top telephone, manufactured by Siemens and Halske of Germany. The handset design is by Hasler of Switzerland and is fitted with original braided cord. This lovely Art Deco-styled phone is in immaculate, mint condition, with a superb shiny, enamelled gloss finish on the solid iron phone body and a handset that is free from any cracks or scratches. The ORIGINAL rotary dial is extremely smooth and has all the numbers totally clear. The centre dial label in German has various service details inscribed.
Incoming and outgoing speech is loud and clear, with no crackles or distortion and the dial rotates correctly at the right speed for outgoing number dialling. The phone has been converted so that it can be instantly plugged in to a standard UK BT socket. The dual bells at the rear of the phone ring loudly on incoming calls with that unique 'double-gong' sound. This can be heard by going to......http://www.presentationhelper.co.uk/newimages/phone_ringing_long.mp3
This is a really unique rare phone and one which looks superbly elegant in modern, minimalist surroundings.
SIX GOOD REASONS TO BUY A CLASSIC TELEPHONE FROM BOWN007
1. I have over 40 years experience as a professional communications and broadcasting engineer. As a BBC engineer and lecturer for many years I trained all grades of staff in both theoretical and practical aspects of communications in radio and television broadcasting.
2. All the telephones I sell go through a rigorous program of refurbishment,
even if they are in supposed working order. I spend considerable time on each telephone to restore them into a condition that I would accept from my own private collection. All telephones offered for sale are completely disassembled and the internal components and wiring are thoroughly checked and replaced where necessary. THE HANDSET AND OTHER PARTS ARE DISINFECTED FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY. The dial mechanism is lubricated and checked for the correct 10p.p.s.rate, transmitters are checked for excessive noise and distortion and earpieces for correct output. Where fitted the original braided line cords are replaced with authentic new ones if required (at a cost of £12 each !). Finally the body and handset of the phone is machine polished to restore the high gloss lustre of the original finish.
3. BT CONVERSIONS In keeping with the superb condition of the renovated telephones the conversion to current modern usage retains the original braided handset and line cord, where fitted, unlike most others sold. All necessary components for conversion are included to ensure that the phone complies with current BT standards. A small, old-style junction box at the end of the line cord converts this to a standard 431 BT plug with a short length of standard PVC line cord attached. In this way the appearance of the telephone and its authenticity is NOT degraded by a modern plastic cord coming from the base of the telephone. Adaptors for USA and overseas telephone networks can be supplied.
NTL and TELEWEST My converted phones have been tested on these and
similar cable networks and function perfectly on incoming and outgoing calls,
with the double gong bells ringing loudly. However customers should check with their cable company to ensure that their network supports outgoing PULSE dialling.
4. All telephones are thoroughly tested before listing on E-Bay. You will never hear me say ‘’ I know nothing about telephones, I just bought this in a house clearance or auction !’’ I always do my best to give accurate details of any flaws and list with photos of the actual phone, so you can judge for yourself what you are bidding on. I NEVER use generic or scanned material from any outside source!
5. GUARANTEE A full 12 month guarantee is given on each telephone, subject to normal user conditions. We carry out all repairs and renovations in our own workshop and phones can always be inspected before any purchase.
6..PERSONAL MESSAGE TO E-BAYERS
I am always concerned that any buyer is entirely happy with a purchase arising from my ‘Description’. However, your bidding price should reflect your expectations given by my ‘Conditions’. All items are entirely described by the written description and photograph, no refunds are possible for any miss-‘Description’ except where the goods are clearly not those on offer. All goods are purchased entirely at the buyer’s risk and the buyer should satisfy themselves about the detail of any specifications before bidding. There is no implied warranty outside of the ‘Description’ and photograph. Where a photograph does not show a major physical defect this will be described. All goods, even new ones, can have minor physical defects such as scratches. The buyer must be satisfied that the goods and photograph conform to what they want to buy before bidding. Buyers will pay all postage costs relating to any return. Electrical goods typically sold by my auction are collectors items and do not conform to any current regulations, the electrical goods sold as suitable for collectors display purposes. When sold as ‘Working’ the meaning of ‘Working’ is that the goods will only conform to the auction ‘Description’ of the function of goods and will not be warranted to conform to the original specification in any way. If described as ‘Working’ this means the goods were tested or examined at some period before the sale and they were ‘Working’ then and put into storage. There is no implication that they will work in any way upon delivery except as arising from the implication of the previous test or examination. ‘Working’ when applied to mains supplied equipment specifically means that they were tested by a trained electronics technician but you must have the item tested and if necessary rewired by a person qualified to do so before plugging anything into the mains regardless of your perceived abilities. ‘Untested’ means that no power has been applied or any other means of testing has taken place, however there may be a part physical examination of the goods, which forms part of the description. Electrical and electronic goods are sold for restoration and display purposes only. Where items are supplied as wrapped, or new, and are then opened, or used, or altered in any way by the buyer, there will be no refunds under any circumstances. All items, both abroad and within the UK, are sent through the UK postal system. Whenever possible I will arrange for the item to be signed for on delivery. I only use this carrier, I do not use any other standards for delivery.
If you want to know anything, always ask before the auction ends.
