This beautiful pair of pierced wine coasters were made circa 1780, of Old Sheffield Plate. They are of beautiful quality, as is usually the case with Old Sheffield, as fine as silver examples of the period. This pierced type are the finest, and reasonably rare as they are fragile and usually do not survive well. This example are in wonderful condition with no damage or repair. The fruitwood bases are original, and have a beautiful antique colour. The coasters are 5 inches across and 2 inches tall.
