ARTIST - GEORGE GAULT 1916-2001
 
George Gault, artist and teacher: born Belfast 2 June 1916: married 1942 Pauline Zulawska (one son, two daughters, and one son deceased); died London 23 April 2001.

Gault was a student at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts between 1948 and 1951. During that legendary period William Johnstone was principal and Gault numbered among his teachers William Coldstream and Victor Pasmore, who both admired his portraits, Philip Matthews, William Townsend and Kenneth Martin.

This is an original oil on board painting by the very well listed Irish artist George Gault 1916-2001.

The painting depicts a street view of somewhere in Ireland (as the majority of Gault's works were)

The painting is signed to bottom right.

CONDITION - is good, however, there are a few areas with slight loss of paint and spotting, plus one very small strip of what appears to be, part of a board, stuck to top right. This could all be rectified quite easily.
