THIS AUCTION IS FOR A GEORGE BEST NORTHERN IRELAND TOP WHICH COMES FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION.
WHICH I OBTAINED FROM A MEMBER OF THE MCCLATCHEY FAMILY.
THE COVERING LETTER THAT COMES WITH THIS ITEM
EXPLAINS HOW THIS SHIRT WORN BY GEORGE WAS GIVEN TO WILLIAM MCCLATCHEY WHO WAS INVOLVED AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF IRISH LEAGUE FOOTBALL FOR FOUR DECADES.
HE WAS MANAGER AT GLENAVON FOR 7 YEARS AND TOOK THEM INTO EUROPE TWICE.
WHEN HE WENT TO WATCH NORTHERN IRELAND MATCHES AT WINDSOR PARK HE WAS ALWAYS IN THE DIRECTORS BOX DUE TO HIS ASSOCIATION WITH IRISH LEAGUE FOOTBALL AND IT WAS ON ONE OF THESE OCCASIONS THAT HE WAS GIVEN THIS SHIRT.
FROM THERE IT ENDED UP WITH HIS SON WHO I PURCHASED IT OFF.
I HAVE RECENTLY HAD THIS SHIRT LOOKED OVER BY A MEMBER OF THE BONHAMS TEAM WHO AGREED WITH ITS PROVENENCE AND I WILL BE PUTTING IT IN THEIR AUCTION NEXT YEAR IF IT FAILS TO GO.
I AM MERELY SELLING OFF SOME OF MY SHIRTS TO PAY FOR ONE OF MY OTHER PASSIONS.
