Item Description
Gerald King Alternate Lundy "1886" Telegraphs Set GK Catalogue Nos T5-T9 values 2s to £5. Part of the SUPERB Alternative Lundy Collection from Gerald King (please see my other lots).
Renowned Philatelic Artist Gerald King produced a series of stamps, covers and postal stationary for Lundy Island from 1840 until circa 1940. The cover all of the famous philetalic events and are complete with Railway (!!) and Telegraph stamps. These wonderful works of art are completely accurate from a philatelic perspective with the frames and inserts all coming from actual stamps of the time and matched by authentic cancels and cachets. The research and accuracy of his work is appreciated all around the world and are now becoming scarce and are seldom offered.
All of these stamps are fully proofed and then printed on a professional photographic printer (about £50,000 worth!!) and then finished by hand. As a consequence there are very few examples around. I have talked to Gerry and he reckons to produce about 1/2 dozen sets PER YEAR. As you can imagine these are scarce items and enthusiasts of his work will want to pick these items up when they can.
UPDATE Gerald no longer has a perforating machine for his stamps so they are NO LONGER available.
LOW start and NO reserve.
ALL AS PER THE FOLLOWING PICTURE(S), what you seeing is what you are bidding on:
