Up for auction is one 4"x4" Luxfer Prism Company glass tile. The pattern on the tile is the Frank Lloyd Wright designed 'flower'. In 1897, Frank Lloyd Wright drew 41 designs for the Luxfer Prism Company who patented them. Only this design of his was ever produced. A copy of the patent appears below.
The use of manganese in the manufacturing of these tiles has, with the combination of the sunlight, caused most of these tiles to turn a lavender shade which enhances their beauty for today's collector.
These tiles were most likely manufactured in the early 1900's to the mid 1920's before the advent of electricity. Frank Lloyd Wright and the Luxfer Prism Company were pioneers in this industry.
With the rarity and fragility of the tiles, insurance will be required. All my tiles have small nicks and dings in them - the expected result of 100 years exposed to the weather and the reclaimation process. They will also need a good final cleaning before you use them in your special project. I have made many leaded transoms out of these tiles and have them displayed all over my house as well as friends and families homes. The tile pictured is representative of the tiles that I am selling.
This tile is in excellent condition.
I will be auctioning off many tiles in the coming weeks. Please check out my other glass tile auctions now and in the future. Many of these tiles are very rare and truely unique.
Thanks for looking!
