Size: 32.5 x 38.5 cms.approx.

Flatter, Joseph Otto (1894-1988)

 

Austrian, trained in the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna & settled in England in 1935.  Saw action as an Infantry Officer in World War I. Attacked the Nazis in a series of cartoons before World War II; was briefly interned in the Isle of Man at the outbreak of the war, then released for propaganda work & made an official artist at the Nuremberg Trials. His works are much admired for their depiction of the human condition & satire.

His war illustrations are at the Imperial war Museum.
