Beautiful female figure from the Lumbo or Punu (Puno) people recognizes by its white face, its elaborated coiffure in the form of a crest on the top and by the typical lozenge-shaped scarification patterns on the forehead. This Figure is used by various tribes in Gabon such as the Punu, Lumbo, Vuvi, Mpongwe, and Ndjabi. portrays a beautiful maiden with her whitened face and serene expression. As in life this beautiful maiden wears an elaborate hairstyle shown through polychrome colors.Known in different names, Okuji, duma or mvudi, it represents a female guardian spirit in the initiation of young girls, funerary rites, ancestor cults, and also in dances of the full moon. At the burial ceremonies of the Punu society, the figure represented a female ancestor. In the Mukuji (or Moukouji) society,Social cohesion is ensured by the Mukuji society, whose primary role is to subjugate harmful forest spirits. The white pigments on masks allude to the anti-witchcraft powers of this group. These masks are worn by Mukuji initiates, who are often on stilts. They are thought to represent ancestor's faces.
