This is a faulhaber 5 pole Coreless motor with  1.5 mm single shaft and it  is 15mm (Diameter) and 24 mm long.  It has Neodymium magnets which are 35 times the power of Alnico and in a motor double or triple stall torque. You can test this by reviewing the spec sheet for the regular versus the SR motor of the same size.

All coreless can motors will coast when power is interrupted and have zero cogging at low speeds but with a flywheel it will coast several  seconds no load and a lot longer with a flywheel

Check other listings for the double shaft models this is a single shaft.

This is a Coreless "Rolls Royce quality" can motor* for  brass or plastic loco diesel or steam loco. It flywheels a few seconds and thats enough to coast you through switchwork for several inches to prevent stalling the  steam or diesel locomotive through dirty or rough trackwork---- With or without flywheel!!  Flywheels available for $5 custom for your size requirements.

If you like your locomotive to start like the prototype and chug smoothly through rough track and deadspots this is the motor for you!   I have many customers who have tried them and love them due to the high power.  The lack of an iron core (coreless motor)  means zero cogging and when power is interrupted it coasts and does not stall!

Faulhaber makes motors that are precision enough to go in space craft, aeronautics and high dollar medical equipment robots and is among the best motor company in the world.

This listing is for the motor equipped with Neodymium magnets which have 35 times the power of Alnico and as a result a motor delivers 2 or 3 times the torque of an equal motor with Alnico magnets----this motor has about 1 oz inch of torque making it as  powerful as a much larger motor and more powerful than the larger 1624 Faulhaber motor because of the Neoduymium magnets!  The more powerful magnets are a little bit slower (compare the 1524t012s  and the 1524T012SR ). The Alnico model one has 13,000 rpm and the SR high power  is 10,000 rpm at 12 volts.

This  is a single  shaft 9 volt motor with 13,000 rpm at 12 volts to match locomotives with 13,000 rpm regular motor.

With just a small flywheel on the 1 .5 mm shaft performance is excellent! I have a few 6 and 18 volt single shaft  e units that can be substituted if you win the bid.  I have more of these motors in 9 volt single shaft and extra long double shaft . Flywheels are $5 each.

Coreless motors make excellent tacho generators--all you need is a voltmeter and you are in business!! See spec sheet for back emf factor.  (rpm per volt)

Because of their efficiency these motors  will not load down on hill or under heavy loads and your pack will deliver more volts for speed (high amp motors eat up your volts eating up your speed!!) Volts and amps vary inversely under load!

Efficiency is rated over 75% converting Amps to stall torque!!

These motors run about $100 from the US importer and the link for the motors is as follows:

This is the precious metal version which has Gold and silver brushes and commutation.

If Link does not work go to www.faulhaber.com This is a

1524T009SR single shaft motor. It is available with  extra long double shafts and precious metal brushes in other listings or by special order.

Kits are available for all major brass locomotives see my other listings.

Coreless motors make excellent tacho generators--all you need is a voltmeter and you are in business!! See spec sheet for back emf factor.  (rpm per volt)

These motoren are known as glockenanker or bell armature in europe and used in Roco Trix (minitrix) and Marklin and are available in sizes 6 mm to 40 and gearheads (getreibe)

You can substitute the  single shaft escap 1725 Rare earth 9 pole coreless motor in 12 or 7.5 volt ratings with about 1.75 oz inches of torque or the 1640 Maxon  9 volt  double shaft motors with over 2 Oz inch of torque.Also.

N scale, Ho, Hon3, NN3, sn3, On3, S scale, O scale, narrow gauge, standard gauge,

This motor delivers about 1  oz inches of stall torque.  See spec sheet mnm converts to oz inches by dividing by 7. This is a Swiss made precision 5 Pole coreless motor with precious metal brushes (silver and gold).

These motors will power the older HO Rivvy  mallett, cab forward, challenger or big boy!! With the offset drive system.   This one motor has a lot of power  and two motors will pull the walls down!!  This same motor will fit an offset gearhead!!

For questions email motorman@micro-loco-motion.com

The HO cab forward on motormans website pictured has coreless 16 mm by 24 motors with center shaft gearheads in 6.3 ratio and required milling of the chassis---A single motor at the rear may be easier to install but does not have as much power and the prototype has independent power to each set of drivers and ones wheel slipping and the other does not!!!! .  2 of the 15 or 16 mm faulhabers give unbelievable performance. The 1524TSR is more powerful than the 1624 due to high power magnets even though its smaller!!

(2 of the 2020 or 2630 offset gearmotors motors may work as well--see other listings.)

The two 6 volts motor in the cab forward pictured  has  6.3  to 1 ratio and hits about 45 miles per hour at 12 volts and will coast for 12 to 14 inches after power is turned off!!!  See other listings for the smaller 15 and 16 mm motors.  Also other larger offset and center shaft gearmotors are available for all scales!!

Coreless motors flywheel when the power is interrupted so takes you through dirty track and prevents stalling.  Many more precision coreless motors and swiss gearheads available from the motorman!!
Available with gearheads in center shaft or offset in 2.33 or 3 to 1 ratio up and also planetary systems 4 to 1 and up.

Happy Trains!!

These swiss precison gearmotor systems are for the advanced hobbyist who has the experience to understand the Engineering of locomotive scale speed and novice hobbyists may find the techno babble over there heads. These motors run about $100 from the US importer!!  The brushes are Gold and the commutator is made of silver.

Your steamer should hit 5 to 6 piston strokes per second to get scale speed and times 60 seconds per minute is about 300 to 360 rpm at scale speed.

So multiply that times your gear ratio to find out what your motor drive shaft speed should be.

This also works out to about 1 mile per hour for each 1 inch of driver diameter:

45 inch drivers should go 45 miles per hour at scale speed--60 inch drivers go 60 mph. etc. At top speed or 5 to 6 piston strokes per second.

This is a mathematical coincidence of diameter times pi times rpm gives speed in inches divide by 12 and thats feet per minute.

*THE international standards organization does not recognize the term "can Motor" and only model railroaders have developed this slang term which  is usually a sealed cylindrical motor with magnets closer to the armature than an open frame motor but the number of poles, quality of the bearings, and type of magnets determine the performance of an iron core motor and its windings size (measured in ohms)  determine its speed at certain voltages

a coreless motor is about 80% efficient while iron core motors are about 50% efficient.  Due to design which more closely follows the Magnetic hysterisis and uses it to develop the most power from the magnetism available.

When I drove a repossessed Rolls royce when I worked at the bank you could not feel or hear the motor running!!

Hook terminals of two coreless motors together and turn one and it tacho generates the other motor due to the High efficiency--the second motor turns as much as the one you turned!!

you can't do that with a "can iron core motor".

It is a plus if the magnets are Samarium Cobalt or Neodymium as rare earth magnets are a lot more powerful (and expensive) than Alnico magnets and double or triple motor torque.

Works with DCC in newer High frequency and LOK decoders.
