Excellent copper high grade struck for two years (1806/1807), unfortunately a slash on the reverse appear caused by a slide die off the press new system. Obverse King's portrait looking right with incuse hair curl by tie knot and Soho word. The coinage at Soho Mint (Birmingham). On the reverse Britannia seated looking left held truncation on left hand across shield, and right hand wreath with 3 berries and a ship and ocean waves by her feet. Also the reason to move from the plain edge to the CGR (Center Graining Right) with almost much success at the time, started a complete abandon to the hammering process; used before for the implementation of the steam power to the coining presses. George III was the grand-son of George II and was born on 4th June 1738. During His reign the longest up to the 18th century (1760-1820), four major happenings on His time in the throne, the French Revolution and the American War of Independence. Also to note that the Naval Battle of Trafalgar and the Battle of Waterloo were within His ruling. Personally, it was extraordinary that He had nine sons and six daughters, within his marriage to Charlotte of Mecklenburg, German princess. However, and later on within His reign He suffered of some alleged madness, now appreciated that was the result of some mental disease. Upon that situation the future George IV was appointed as Regent. He died on 29th January 1820 at Windsor Castle. During the 18th. century very little silver and or copper was minted, and quite different types of coins and tokens even (Spanish coins) were counter-marked. |
