If you really don't want the item you can send it back securely wrapped (at your expense) and we'll refund your money. The British Association for Fair Trade Shops: We buy our supplies from accreditted BAFTS specialist importers of decorative handicrafts, ethnic art & crafts, and furniture from around the world. Everything in their collection has been personally selected or commissioned directly from the artist or craftsman at source in the country of origin. They know all their producers individually, and make advance payments to enable them to purchase raw materials. Every effort is made to ensure that all carved items are made from sustainable cultivated timber, and that non-fade child-safe acrylics are used on painted products. Their direct trading policy currently provides well-paid regular employment for about 200 families in some of the poorer regions of the world. They make several major buying trips each year in search of new stock, and to maintain both the quality and continuity of their current range…the most recent being to Indonesia, Nepal, Peru and the Amazon.

Shop around:

It is always worthwhile comparing prices. Consider whether any after-sales service is included in the price. Always check the small print. You should also make sure you know who you are dealing with. Check that the seller is who they say they are. Make sure you know their correct address. Take your time. Don’t be rushed into making a decision. Do not be swayed by offers of a good price only if you buy it quickly. If it is a good company and a genuine deal, it will be there tomorrow.

Is there a returns policy?

For goods bought in a sale, you have the same rights as normal, unless a particular fault has been pointed out to you in advance. For second-hand goods, you have the same rights as normal, unless some fault is expected or has been pointed out to you. Some traders have a ‘goodwill’ policy for returning unwanted or duplicated goods. If they don’t have a goodwill policy, you can ask if they will allow you to return the goods and have a refund of your money on this particular purchase, but you have to get them to agree to this. Remember, if goods are not faulty, the trader does not have to do anything. However, they may issue a credit note or exchange on a goodwill basis. You should always check how long the credit note is valid for.
