I have opened this account on Ebay specifically to sell costume jewellery as I have a huge amount..The majority is vintage, and, unless otherwise stated will be base metal and paste stones. This is a rare early Lea Stein brooch one from the damsel series, I have two of these and both came from france where of course lea stein did her early work. It is in perfect condition and measures just over 2" long, it has the tell tale V shaped pin as shown. I have been unable to find out huge amounts about them but I did ask a dealer who was selling similar and she said :

 they are indeed her early design work. 

     This "Damsel" series and her Promenade / Park series are not well known. There are 6 Damsels in this series, and 6 scenes in the Promenade series. Those were Victorian Park, high society dress appearance, top hats, flowing dresses, parasols, carriage rides, picnic etc.
    Lea worked / designed for others but the real give away for her stuff is the clasps as well as quality design. Early on, she never imageined it would matter, nor be relevant to mark her work. Any clasp that could be obtained was used, Trumpet style even can be found on obvious layered acetate pieces.
     Some of these have the distinct early "V" style. 
     With the V style clasp, earliest were very simple, then more stylized but unmarked, later, many of this style are marked "WEST GERMANY" and then finally "LEA STEIN PARIS". This set is a mixture of different fasteners. Once you have these in hand, the clasps, design style & quality betray them very quickly.  I was lucky enough to grab a few sets in Paris in 2006.  
     Many early pins and later serigraph pins are entirely without marking to indicate Lea's work, but are clearly her design.
