A top quality antique Sorrento ware jewellery box measuring 9.75 in (248 mm) x 5.5 in (140 mm) x 4.25 in (108 mm). The olive wood box ( key supplied) has detailed inlaid marquetry decoration to the lid ( two couples in traditional costume taking part in folk dance) enclosed in a fine mosaic border with a design containing bird and foliate decoration. This mosaic design is continued in narrow bands on other sections of the box. The box has brass fittings with an inset oval mirror to the lid ( couple of shallow chips to edge of glass, do not detract) and two padded interior sections which can be swung through 90 degrees. Overall, the box is in very good condition ( very minor loss of inlay - small rectangular section to one corner of marquetry missing to lid, does not detract, easy to restore if necessary). A beautiful, skilfully handcrafted and useful jewellery box for someones collection or use. A
