A nice early large plump authentic Inuit Eskimo soapstone seal. Carved from a deep dark blue black colored stone, the carving demonstrates the life like realism that makes Inuit carvings so desirable. The carving measures 9 1/2" long and 3 1/2" wide and is signed faintly by the artist in syllabics and numbered to E9-823 to the base. The carving is attributed to Sarah Joe Qinuaja (1917-1986) from the remote arctic community of Puvirnituq. The carving is in good condition with a couple of minor nicks as expected with age and handling. The carving makes a great display item and a fine addition to anyone's collection.Please add $12.99 for careful shipping and insurance (USA). Good Luck and Happy bidding.
