FINE ANTIQUE GOLD/F WALTHAM HUNTER POCKET WATCH C1903

Early Gold Filled Waltham Traveller Full-Hunter Pocket Watch c1903. 

 The Movement:

                      Is a Waltham 7 jewel gilt plate lever movement, it is in excellent condition; the set screws are blued steel which sets off the gilt plates nicely, the makers name; American Waltham U.S.A Traveller is engraved on the plate. The movement is fitted with a split bi-metallic balance wheel to compensate for temperature, with a blued steel Breguet overcoil hairspring and micro regulator, the movement is crown wound and set.  The movement is running very strong and keeping excellent time; it has a full action to the balance wheel; the watch has been cleaned and serviced. 

The Case:          

              Is a gold filled full-hunter and to wear 10 years. The case is in nice condition throughout, the covers open and close with a crisp snap on firm hinges, with no obvious wear; the front cover smartly opens to the 90deg with a press of the crown as it should. As you can see from the close photography, the case is in excellent condition for its age. The case measures 50.3mm (2”) diameter excluding the crown, 15mm in depth, with the movement being 42mm.

The Dial:

            Is a pure white enamel dial in nice condition, the time is depicted by black Roman numerals, crisp and clear; the makers mark “American Waltham U.S.A” is at the mid 12 o’clock position, there is a hairline to the dial. The hour, minute and sub second hands are blued steel; the subsidiary dial is sunken at the 6 o’clock position. The glass is acrylic replacement.

These numbers prove that the watch purchased is the watch in the listing.

Faults:

        Obviously the watch is quite old so will have some light age marks, there is a hairline to the dial at 11 o’clock; these faults are not bad but they are there and should be mentioned. As you can see from the close up photography, this watch is in nice condition for its age. Please refer the 12 photographs, they are there to help you form your own opinion of this watch.
