FINE ANTIQUE ENGRAVED POLISH SILVER TEA BOX

Presented is a nice silver plated box. The box is raised on four feet in the form of bows made out of rope. It has a matching finial composed of a rope bow with a ring at the top. The hinged lid and the body of the box are both engraved with a Greek key design. I believe this box was made in Poland in the second half of the 1800s. The box was probably meant for storing tea, but could be used for many things.

The box is marked J. Nowotny on the underside for the maker.

The condition is excellent. The plating is worn through in some places, especially a couple of spots on the reverse and the sides and the underside, but it is largely intact. The hinge is strong, and the box closes very tightly. There are no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs.

The box measures 6 1/4 inches by 5 inches and is 5 1/2 inches tall.
