DAN WARRIOR MASK (IVORY COAST) AFRICAN FETISH

This is a DAN MASK actually from the Ivory Coast, but being sold from the FAIRTRADEGHANA shop in the village of 'Kokrobite', Accra. It has been 'donated' by a local chief from 'his own' collection, to help promote our new business venture selling local products abroad which will in turn help the community. The DAN tribe traditionally live in the Ivory Coast and Liberia, which are adjacent to Ghana in West Africa, and there are strong historic links with tribes in Ghana.

This mask was possibly worn by the female of the tribe, as depicted by the slit eyes, half open mouth and 2 rows of cowrie shells adorning the top of the mask which normally typifies females. The mask is in good condition but has some wear and minor drying cracks etc. We do not know the actual age of this mask.

WOODEN MASK - Approximately 14 inches (35 cm) tall by 8 inches (20cm) at widest point , Hair length max approx 15 inches (38cm) and weighs around 1 to 2 lbs (0.5kg+).

The paintings and craftworks all portray scenes which reflect the everyday life and diverse culture of the various tribes in Ghana such as the AKAN, GA, ASHANTI etc. Apart from supporting the artists, a percentage of the sale of 'ALL' items will be used to support some amazing charities in Ghana, such as the 'OSU orphanage' in Accra which does incredible work, and also helping the needy children in villages such as Pepease,Aburi, Ayi Mensah and Kokrobite in Accra which are close to our hearts.
