FABULOUS ANTIQUE FRENCH FEATHER TRIMMED BONNET HAT

As you will see from my  other auctions I am working my way through a huge trunk of 19th century clothing that has come from an old house in Paris. It has not been touched for well over 100 years and the more pieces I pull out of the trunk the more I realise that this mademoiselle was the most elegant dresser!

This is such an amazing Paris confection that dates from the late 1800s / early 1900s!!!

This fabulous hat is a superb display of silk ribbons, ostrich feathers, netting lace, black work weave fabric and straw all mounted on a wirework frame.

The front and back borders carry a section of black straw passementerie beads,curls and scrolls. There is a lavender silk ribbon bow, sadly distressed with age but still tightly in place.

The ostrich plumes are also a little distressedcommensurate with age  but still in place and flow around the right hand side and top.

The long black silk ribbon ties are all intact , good and strong.

This is such a wonderful display piece and an amazing construction that must have been the height of fashion for this mademoiselle.

A delicious old Paris "frou frou" confection for any collector or costume display.
