This great value external dual-disk RAID drive enclosure is great for those who want to make an external disk drive using SATA disks. Any disk make or size can be fitted, even the latest 1.5TB models.
There are a number of modes you can use that take advantage of the RAID controller. See the Specifications panel (below) for more detailed explanation.
This product is aimed at PC users with eSATA or USB 2.0 ports. You will get significantly faster performance using eSATA. If your PC motherboard has SATA disk connectors, but not external eSATA ports then we can supply a PCI adaptor plate with an eSATA port that connects through to a motherboard SATA connector.
The whole product has a 2 year warranty.

| RAID Mode Configurations |
|
Non-RAID: The drives will show up as two independent drives. When using eSATA in this mode only one disk is seen unless your PC has Port Multiplier (PM) Support in the SATA controller.
JBOD - Big Disk Spanning: The two drives show up as one large single drive. Spanning is an array (not RAID) that is written sequentially across the two drives. By itself, it does not provide any performance or redundancy benefits.
You can start with one disk, and when a second disk is added later its free space is automatically added (joined) to the first.
RAID 0 - Striping: Used where speed is the primary objective, RAID Level 0 (also called "striping") is not redundant, and therefore does not technically conform to the definition of a RAID. This form of array splits each piece of data across both of the drives in segments; since data is written without any form of parity data-checking, it allows for the fastest data transfer of all other RAID levels. However, if one drive becomes damaged, the whole array can become corrupted.
RAID 1 - Mirroring: A RAID 1 creates an exact copy (or mirror) of a set of data on the second drive. This is useful when reliability and backup are more important than data capacity. The available capacity to the user will only be as large as a single drive but when one of the hard drives fails, it can be replaced and the data rebuilt automatically.
SAFE33 or SAFE50: A combination of RAID Mirroring and Big Disk Spanning. Either 33% or 50% of the capacity is used as a Mirrored disk, and the rest as a big disk.
For example, a SAFE33 setup with 2 x 300GB disks will have one 100GB Mirrored volume and one 400GB spanned volume. The 100GB volume would be for critical data you want to protect against HW failure and the 400GB for when you don't need such high reliability.

The LED panel enables you to see status of power, disk access,
failures, and rebuilding or verifying of a RAID array.
Supplied in a neat retail box:
Jumpers inside the enclosure allow the configuration of RAID setting. Most changes will cause the data to be lost, so you need to make the setting before adding your data.
Assembling your SATA disks into the enclosure is easy. There are 4 screws on the back, which when removed allow the tray to slide out from the Aluminium body. The disks are then attached into the tray with screws, and the tray slid back into the body.
Only a cross-head screwdriver is needed for the installation.
Warranty: 2 year, return to base.
During the 24 month warranty a faulty product is returned at the customer's expense and replaced and returned at our expense.
