This is an exquisite solid 18 karat gold snuff box, French, circa 1880.
The box is absolutely superb and in crisp / pristine condition.
The box is curved in shape top and bottom, designed to be carried in a gentleman's jacket pocket. The lid and base have wonderful engine turned central panels framed by swirls and leaves.
The sides have similar decoration around the lid and the base with fine reeded lines. The four corners are canted with leaf decoration.
The quality of this box and the craftsmanship are supreme and the box is in the most crisp and pristine condition.
It measures 3-1/8 inches / 79 mm wide x almost 1-3/4 inches / 45 mm and it stands 5/8 inches / 16 mm high. It weighs 93 grams.
The box bears various marks including ''72 PFI'' in a lozenge, a crowned horse or bull and 750 for 18 karat gold.
It is extremely rare to find a gold box in such pristine condition - truly a beautiful work of art.
