Keith points out to Lee that every hole in the bank has its own inhabitants. Minnows hide from Kingfishers, but chub and perch also use the sanctuary of the roots for the same purpose.

 

Shoals of roach hang motionless in the steady glides, ready to intercept passing morsels of food, and dace dart about on the gravelly shallows, ever active, their lightning fast bites a challenge for any angler!

 

Fishing in the river successfully depends a great deal on finding the right spot to fish. Keith and Lee take time out to search for the 'perfect swim', and explain how the combination of flow, depth and cover can pinpoint where the fish should be.

 

The classic method for float fishing is trotting, and several styles are explained in detail before they settle on the stick float. The correct way to cast and feed is demonstrated, and the perfect control given by the stick float results in a good sized bag of fish.
