The protection level offered by each of our vests is stated clearly in the description, there are three basic types of vest:- Multi-threat These vests are most commonly used in the UK where stab or ballistic threats may be encountered. Most multi-threat vests offer ballistic protection at US NIJ level 2 which covers the most commonly used handguns i.e. 9mm & .357, as well as all lesser threats. It is a common misconception that there is a ‘standard’ level of stab protection, this is not true there are many different tests for stab protection and different organisations have different requirements. The most common tests are carried out by the PDSB but these are only used to indicate a vests performance, mainly to UK Police forces, most of whom have their own requirements and specifications. The main difference is whether or not the vest has been tested for very sharp instruments such as sharpened screwdrivers or hypodermic needles. The stab protection is afforded in two main ways; laminated Kevlar or chainmail/mesh, generally vests that offer stab protection will be stiffer and less flexible than ballistic only vests and this is a issue for all users, the more protection a vest offers the heavier, less flexible and less concealable the vest will be. Our vests clearly state the protection level offered and the weight of each vest is stated. This armour also offers protection against ‘blunt trauma’ this is where the vest is hit with a blunt object such as a baseball bat or a brick, the vest is designed to dissipate the energy of the attack spreading the energy over a larger area thereby reducing injury. Will a vest protect me against shotguns? Shotguns create a different threat to other ballistic weapons, the main threat is the ‘pushing’ of the armour by the spread of the shot, the vest will offer protection against the shot itself which will not breach the armour however there may be injury from the ‘pushing’ impact. Why have some labels been removed? We are required to remove the serial numbers and names which may identify the first user; in some cases the manufacturer also requires us to remove their name. Can I return my armour if it is unsuitable? Yes, if you are unhappy with your purchase or if the armour is does not fit correctly you can return it for a refund of the purchase price. Post and packing charges are not refundable and return postage must be paid by the sender. The armour must be in the condition it was supplied and complete with its original packaging and all returns must be within 7 days of purchase. Can I try on or inspect the armour before bidding? No, the armour is accurately described and the size is stated. Can I collect the armour? No, the armour is available mail order only. What are the vests made from? Ballistic protection is normally DuPont Kevlar; however some vests incorporate a similar fabric called Dyneema. Stab protection is normally laminated Kevlar or a lightweight stainless steel alloy; please e-mail us if you need to know the exact construction of the armour you are buying. Do you offer a warranty or guarantee? No, all of our vests are sold as ‘second user’ and therefore neither the manufacturer nor we warrant their performance, it is entirely up to the user to decide whether or not the vest is fit for purpose by carrying out their own risk assessment.
