From the Boy's Own Annual 1916, a four-page article called 'Public School Missions'. It was part of a series of articles written by A B Cooper looking at 'What "Old Boys" have done and are still doing for their less fortunate brothers in poor districts' and this particular one was about two Missions – Eton College, based in Hackney Wick; and the City of London Mission, based in Southwark.
Article includes nine photographic prints and one illustration featuring (i) sketch of Eton, (ii) photo of Rev. Ralph L. White (then Eton Commissioner) (iii) The Eton Mission Building, Hackney Wick (iv) An Ambulance Party of the Lads' Brigade, Eton Mission – seen in the scan, (v) Poor Boy Guests of the Eton Mission (vi) St Barnabas Mission Hall, Mitcham (City of London School Mission), (vii) Rev. Dr. Chilton, D.D. (Headmaster of City of London School & president of School Mission), (viii) St Barnabas Mission Hall (interior) and (ix) Junior Gymnasium Class (St Barnabas Mission).
Apart from some yellowing with age, the article & illustrations are in excellent condition, having been kept within the book for the last 92 years.
