Englilsh School 19thC Coastal Figural Oil Painting

This is an excellent English School oil dating from the Victorian period.

The figural landscape depicts a beautiful and finely detailed mid to late 19th Century coastal figural painting. The cliff edges are covered with rich summer grasses, tall trees and woodland rising behind the thatched cottages below. To the right two brightly dressed figures are conversing. In the distance boats sail on the calm seas. Above a clouded sky gives way to an evening sunset. A beautiful little painting, finely detailed.

The oil probably dates to around 1870 - 1890.

The work is set off by a frame of pine with carved decoration, and finished in gilt. The frame is later. The oil is mounted on board. The oil is in good general condition but there are a few marks and blemishes consistent with age.The painting has one or two small marks, namely to the left on the tree, with a little flaking to the bottom where the figures are standing. Otherwise the painting is in good condition for its age. The later frame is in good condition, having one or two minor chips consistent with age. The work measures - approx 7 X 9 inches (17.78 X 22.86cm) when framed. The image measurements are- approx 5 X 7 inches (12.7 X 17.78cm).
