Edwin Starr - Twenty Five Miles (20th Century Fox) 1990.
Born Charles Edwin Hatcher in Nashville, Tennessee and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. At the age of 15 he formed a doo-wop band called the Future Tones in 1957 moving to detroit in the early 1960's recording for Ric Tic Records before it became swallowed up by Tamla Motown. He first garnered public attention in the U.S.A. in 1965 with "Agent Double'O'Soul", the following singles "Headline News" and "Back Street" in 1966 also further established his reputation. His first hit in the U.K. was in 1968 with "Stop On Sight (S.O.S.)" which charted at No.11, the original version of this single charted at No.36 later in the year. A cover of The Miracles "Way Over There" released in 1969 was popular in the the soul and mod clubs but failed to dent the national chart before hitting the top three with "War". Edwin made a return to the chart in 1979 with the more disco style of "(Eye To Eye) Contact" and "H.A.P.P.Y. Radio" and was active in music until his death, caused by a heart attack, in 2003 at home in Beeston near Nottingham aged 61. This 1990 issue 12" single is housed in its original stickered generic RCA disco bag.
