Edwin Earp Antique Highland Loch Watercolour Painting

Description: A fine Scottish Highland Landscape watercolour on artist's paper, signed Edwin Earp and dating circa 1900. Framed - approx 36 X 30 inches (91.44 X 76.2cm). This is a fine Scottish Realist watercolour dating from the Victorian period. The antique watercolour depicts one of a pair of beautiful highland loch scenes, brightly lit and beautifully detailed. With the waters of the loch and the distance left "unpainted" the paintings may have some japanese influence, the far mountains rise like ghosts out of the background blending with the clouds whilst the detail remains, finely painted and to the foreground strongly coloured, beautifully observed. This is an impressive and unusual landscape, signed Edwin Earp lower right.

Date: The watercolour probably dates to around 1900.

Artist Biography: Edwin John Earp (British 1848-1945) Born Brighton, Sussex Earp is a prolific and popular artist specialising in landscapes.

Framing: Original - bead moulded Gesso work. Finish: Gilt.

Condition: Excellent bright pallet and good definition. Some foxing to the sky. Some staining to the mount. The frame has some wear and losses to the gesso work but otherwise sets off the painting beautifully.
