A rare and interesting early document, signed as Comte de Provence ("Louis Stanislas Xavier", 1 page oblong folio in French with paper seal at the bottom right, dated 19 September, 1773.
Concerning the rights of precedence so beloved by the ancient regime. The chevalier Albert Francois de Rhumillis, who had retired from his office of introducing the foreign Ambassadors to "Monseigneur" (as the Comte de Provence was known) is here allowed to retain his former honours and rights of entry into Monseigneur's chambers. At this period King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, married three years earlier, had no children, and the young Comte was heir to the throne. He would later become Louis XVIII of France, 1814-24.
