Superb Japanese Antique Ojime Beautifully Layered & Polished Lacquer.  Traditional bead suspended above the Netsuke.   18mm Diameter.  Traditional Japanese color motif of rich green-beige, red, black.   The artist / creator of this piece carefully planned the layering of lacquer to realize the visible effects.  Brass rings intact.  Old and rare.  Edo Era.  Pre-1868.  An delightful addition to your collection!  Very fine condition. 

Netsuke were attached by a chord to the Ojime which loosened and tightened the chord above the compartmentalized Inro.  The chord on which the Inro hung ran under the kimono Obi (belt)  secured in place by the  Netsuke positioned over its stiff fabric edge..  This acted as a secure device to prevent the Inro from detaching from its owner.)
