EXQUISITE ANTIQUE FRENCH CHATEAU LACE CURTAINS c1900

....brimming with delicious vintage French shabby chic treasures.

This is the most exquisite pair of antique French chateau lace drapes that date from the early 1900s.

I have had them stashed away for myself for many years until we finally bought the house we wanted to stay in for ever. Now we are here at the Petit Chateau du Breuil I find that they are not long enough for any of the windows so I suppose its time to let someone else have the pleasure of them rather than keep them folded in an armoire. I shall of course require visiting rights!!

This wonderful pair of drapes are as light as a whisper and SO shabby chic with their frou frou frilled edges. They are soft and fluid and drape superbly.

The colour is fresh old cream that is perfectly vintage.

The fine netting lace carries an embroidered design of lattice cartouches topped with roses. Each cartouche is joined by swagged rose garlands.

The long inner sides and base of each curtain carries a scalloped frill that carries the same design. At the join of the frill and the curtain panel are drawn threadwork borders.

These curtains are in amazing condition for their age and I can find just a few tiny holes and one repair to a frill commensurate with age and use. They certainly do not detract and are lost in the drapery.

Each curtain measures:

Length 9 feet (274.5cms)

Width 6 feet (183cms)

The top of each curtain will have to be hemmed into a sleeve to slide a pole or wire or curtain tape could be added for rinds. It looks to me as if the original top hem was undone at some time as a couple of holes remain at the very edge. So please remember that with the length quoted above you will loose a little for top hemming.
