ENGLISH ART POTTERY HAND MADE DISH/FRUIT BOWL/1940-70
This is the most amazing dish. I bought it at an auction just because I thought it was very beautiful and I loved the earthy colours, and because it is a very useful dish to use as a centrepiece for fruit or even bread or fish. I don't know much about it I'm afraid. It is a very heavy piece of pottery, in an abstract squarish shape, in earth tones of stone, slate, heather blues and browns. |t is overlaid on the inside with dramatic incisions across the clay, interspersed with delicate leaf and fern decoration, the fern design being so perfect it looks like it was pressed into the wet clay. The only marks it has are a square on the front with the initials AJ stamped into it, and the same initials again, painted on the back. It is probably unique, and in excellent condition.
Measures 16in x 11in (40cm x 28cm).

At Frockabilia / EurobiliaUK.Antiques we have one simple aim; to sell good quality antique pieces at competitive prices. .
We are located near Hampstead Heath in Central London; we sell small to medium sized pieces of period furniture and collectables, mostly items that we consider to be useful in the home as well as decorative. We hope that if we love them, then so will you. They range from the Georgian, Regency, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Edwardian and Art Deco periods. .
Most of our items are Antiques and minor blemishes are normal due to age (Some items are over 100 years old, so perfection is impossible). All auction descriptions are honest, accurate, detailed and have many pictures, if the item has a flaw we try to show a picture so you will know exactly what you are bidding on. But please remember that there is normal wear and tear, and it is not always possible to show that. We take a great deal of trouble over transporting our items, whether they are large or small. The large pieces of furniture, which go by road, are carefully handled by expert delivery drivers and the smaller pieces are packed very carefully, with lots of packing materials - the more fragile they are, the more packing and care they receive.
