This is a magnificent clock made by JJ ELLIOTT of London, who were the original makers of tubular bell clocks and owned the original patent on tubular bells chiming clocks. This clock stands proud and boasts 3 popular chimes, Westminster, Whittington & St Michael. Elliott longcase clocks were very expensive when new, late 1890s to early 1910s this clock would have cost the same amount as a countryside cottage and were only for the very rich! The clock was valued at £12,000 over ten years ago. Viewing is available upon request.

The movement is of the highest possible quality, being extremely heavy and robust. It features a deadbeat escapement, adjustable fly fans (the speed of the chime can be changed to suit the owner). The clock keeps absolutely perfect time counting each second to the second with the long and heavy weight pendulum. The movement will run for 8 days at each wind - The original crank key is provided, The movement is powered by the three heavy weights... The largest weight is over 3 stone and powers the chimes. The movement has been fully dismantled, cleaned, reassembled, greased and oiled accordingly. The three chimes all work very well, there is a silent lever on the dial for the chime and the strike separately, so if you like to have it just striking the hours instead of chiming each quarter this option is available to you. This clock has not undergone any repairs at all to the movement as there was nowear whatsoever. Please view the photos of the movement to appreciate the high quality of craftmanship. 

The dial is made up of a thick polished brass plate which contains beautiful golden fretwork and 4 brass silvered chaper rings . The main large chaper ring displays the embossed gold arabic numerals this contains a smaller chaper ring which displays the seconds. The key holes on are to the centre of the dial and display nicely. To the top section of the dial there are two more chaper rings, one displays the Chime and Silent option, the second displays the 3 chiming options (Westminster, Whittington & St Michael). The dial has recently been restored to its original condition. The time is shown by beautiful ebonised serpentine hands.

This case is of great proportions, dark solid oak in excellant condition. The top hood has flat crystal glass and lovely carvings to the top section, there are also two lovely carved wooden fretted side panels which help to resonate the chime from the tubular bells - truly beautiful sounds. The front door has one curved thickly bevelled glass panel which is very attractive indeed through which you can see the 3 large brass weights, pendulum which are in excellent condition.You can also see the 9 long silver tubular bells which are in very good condtion. The weights and pendulum have been polished. To each side of the trunk there is continuation of the carvings from the hood. The base of the clock has a central oak panel with  further embossed carvings and to finish off it stands on four large wooden feet. The clock case is in fantastic condition as can be seen on the photos. There is no woodworm, a good clean heavy English oak case in original condition.
