GLASS BOTTOMED PEWTER CORONATION TANKARD - EDWARD VIII
THE CORONATION THAT NEVER WAS !!
ABDICATED 11th Dec 1936

An English made Pewter tankard with a glass base, made to commemorate the Coronation of Edward VIII in 1937.
However Edward Abdicated on 11th December 1936 - so the Coronation never took place!

The glass base is quite stunning; It consists of a thin layer of blue glass applied to clear glass. The blue glass has then been etched back to the clear, leaving the intricate royal monogram with crown and date showing through the blue surround.

A small plaque was added by the manufacturer to the side of the tankard detailing the Abdication.

It was made by Travis Wilson & Co under the trade name MANOR, which is the stamped mark on the base rim.

The glass base is in excellent and unscratched condition.
The pewter has no dents or dings with only very minor scratches.
We have not attempted to polish this item.
