A fine quality original pencil drawing with touches of colour by Edward Matthew Ward (1816-79). It is signed E M Ward and dated 1846. It shows a young woman in profile (bust length portrait). It is possible that the subject is the artist's future wife, Henrietta. Henrietta studied with her father the artist George Raphael Ward - her grandfather was James Ward RA. Although less well known than her husband Edward, she painted very much in his style and, like him, exhibited at the Royal Academy. They were married in 1848. This particular drawing has come from a family album which contained sketches mainly by Edward Matthew Ward, but also included studies by Henrietta and also others by artists from their circle. Condition is good. There is some pale scattered foxing and one or two areas of light finger marking. The drawing is laid down onto a portion of an album leaf (glued at the corners only). Size: 10 x 7 inches (to sheet edges) - unframed PLEASE SEE MY CURRENT LISTINGS FOR SOME MORE DRAWINGS FROM THIS ALBUM PAYMENT BY CHEQUE FROM UK BUYERS, PLEASE; PAYPAL ACCEPTED FROM OVERSEAS BUYERS.
