Paul Storr Georgian Sterling Silver Teapot

Made in London in 1793.

A Superb Georgian Sterling Silver Teapot.  Made in London, in 1793, by Paul Storr.  With a part Fluted Body, Spout and Lid.  Wooden handle and finial.  Free from engraving.  Made in the  first year he registered his marks.  This is his second mark.  As early work this teapot is of Great interest to the avid Paul Storr collector.  He finished his apprenticeship in 1792.  For a few years he worked in the city with William Frisbee, so this teapot is quite likely to come from the hand of Paul Storr, made before he had apprentices of his own.  The teapot is truly lovely, a pleasure.  The form balance and proportion absolutely first rate.  The Classic style both influenced by Adams and the wooden finial very "pagoda" and Oriental.  All absolutely right.  The pagoda finial determining the fluting running over the lid and after a plain silver surface area, down to the bottom of the teapot.  The fluting replicated on the spout and on the handle brackets, these flutes charmingly finished with ovoid decoration to give an increased perspective of three dimensions.  Handle and finial sit very firm, the invisible hinge flush to a thousandth of an inch.  Really exceptional work.  By a master silversmith.  Charmingly the fretsaw marks are just visible around the bottom of the base.  This is a very very good teapot in good order.  Certainly good enough for the best collections.

Condition:

The Marks:  All Very Well Struck.

The Teapot:  Very Good.  No Splits, Dents or repairs.  Lid and handle sit tight.  Hinge in perfect working order.  Some  minor surface scratches, .
