Estate Find: This listing is for an antique Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) Early Excelsior pattern Bowl ca.1850's - 1860's. This Civil War era Bowl measures 8 1/4 inches wide at the rim, and 3 1/2 inches tall. I believe it's a console bowl, due to the lack of inside utensil scratches. I can only find one or two Bulls-Eyes with a very tiny nick. Rim is free of any damage. The bottom appears to have a mold seam with much nicking. The seam has several spots of excess glass, and the bottom center is rough like a pontil mark, which gives the bowl a primative appearance. Wonderful clarity and luster!
Many companies produced Excelsior and all its many variants from the early 1850's and into the late 1890's. Only a few made this pattern, with a diamond between the bulls-eyes, and not just a spearpoint. They are Boston and Sandwich 1850's, Ihmsen & Co. 1851, Mckee and Brothers 1868, and Bryce Brothers. Please feel free to write me if you have any questions.
