E. Ayres Boxer Dog Pet Portrait Oil Painting

This is a fine English School oil dating from the late 20th Century period.

The portrait depicts a beautiful study of a fine boxer dog. This wonderful stocky breed are full of fun and popular family pets. The dog is set in a meadow landscape. He stands 'four square' with his sturdy legs and short fawn coat, with a little white 'splash' on his chest. The dog's physic is beautifully depicted, his powerful shoulders rising to a thick short neck with his wonderful square form head and square jaw with drooping muzzle. This is a fabulous portrait, the dog guaring his bone with great sense of power and agility.

The work is signed and dated to the lower right - "E. AyresW", "'73" for "1973".

The work is set off by a frame of pine with plain moulded decoration, and finished in gilt. The frame is contemporary to the work. The oil is mounted on board. The oil is in good general condition but there are a few marks and blemishes consistent with age.The frame has a few dings and chips consistent with age. The work measures - approx 19 X 23 inches (48.26 X 58.42cm) when framed. The image measurements are- approx 13 X 17 inches (33.02 X 43.18cm).
