Double Diamond – Ind Coope Burton Pale Ale – 1950s miniature bottle-shaped novelty Pencil. This is a charming advertising item for Double Diamond – Burton Pale Ale by Ind Coope, which dates from the 1950s. It is in the shape of a miniature bottle that measures 2½” high. The bottle is made of brown Bakelite type hard plastic with the Double Diamond labels stuck on. (Actually water transfers rather than stickers). These are lightly worn but still looks fine. In the base of the bottle is a slot, that is actually the head of a screw / screw-in section. When you un-screw this (with a coin or a screwdriver – or even your finger-nail if it is not done up too tightly) a propelling pencil section comes out that you can then turn round and screw back into the bottle to make a 4½” total length for the pencil, although there is no lead in it, although I can see that the mechanism works fine.
