British issue is accompanied by a bonus DVD, and extra interview and unreleased material.A million miles from the moody intensity of the more angst-ridden wing of Britpop (Radiohead, Elbow, Muse), the Delays hearken back instead to the innocent jangle of UK pop-rock circa 1990 (the Lightning Seeds, the La's). The quartet's debut album, FADED SEASIDE GLAMOUR, is fully as popwise as the best of Coldplay, but the Delays aren't embarrassed to jump in with both feet for a big, bold hook or emotional production flourish (hey, neither were the Beatles). The sound revolves around singer/songwriter/guitarist Greg Gilbert, whose boyish tenor and crafty compositional skills are the stuff of which pop dreams are made. Gilbert's '60s-friendly guitar sparkles through the songs, buoyed by Aaron Gilbert's orchestral keyboard backgrounds and a rhythm section refreshingly free of garage-rock limitations. The time for sparking pure-pop revolutions may be long past, but that doesn't preclude reveling in the lushness of FADED SEASIDE GLAMOUR.
