The quartet's debut album, FADED SEASIDE GLAMOUR, is fully as popwise as the best of Coldplay, but the Delays aren't embarrassed to jump in with both feet for a big, bold hook or emotional production flourish (hey, neither were the Beatles). The sound revolves around singer/songwriter/guitarist Greg Gilbert, whose boyish tenor and crafty compositional skills are the stuff of which pop dreams are made. Gilbert's '60s-friendly guitar sparkles through the songs, buoyed by Aaron Gilbert's orchestral keyboard backgrounds and a rhythm section refreshingly free of garage-rock limitations. The time for sparking pure-pop revolutions may be long past, but that doesn't preclude reveling in the lushness of FADED SEASIDE GLAMOUR.
