Death of Queen Astrid of Belgium 1935. Bronze 70mm by Van Dionant.

Princess Astrid of Sweden was born on 17th November 1905, the niece of King Gustav V. She married Prince Leopold of Belgium on 4th November 1926 and became Queen Astrid on his accession to the Belgian throne in 1934.

A very popular monarch she was tragically killed in a motorcar accident whilst holidaying in Switzeland on 29th August 1935.
