David Birch Evesham Town Abbey Watercolour Painting

Description: An excellent Evesham townscape watercolour on artist's paper, signed David Birch and dating circa 1980. Framed - approx 19 X 24 inches (48.26 X 60.96cm). This is an excellent English Traditional watercolour dating from the mid c20th period. The townscape depicts Evesham town center bright washed and long shadowed in the low light of the sun. The old buildings around the square in front of Abbey Park And Church providing a tranquil setting for locals about their business, no cars. The town witnessed the Battle of Evesham on 4th August 1265 during which Simon de Montfort, known as the father of the English Parliament, was bitterly defeated and brutally killed. Some of the buildings in this beautiful market town date back to the C15th. The work is signed David Birch lower right.

Date: The picture may date to circa 1980 but it is difficult to be certain.

Artist Biography: David Birch David Birch is a much respected architectural and landscape painter, but many people first meet him when his white van is parked on the side of the road and he’s busy sitting next to it sketching or painting. David Birch lives at Chipping Campden and has been a professional artist for many years. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society in London as well as the Royal West of England Academy at Bristol.
