Daiwa Big Game Saltwater Reels

Daiwa Sealine SLD20II and SLD30II

Graphite and aluminum construction combined for a strong and light 2 speed reel that's at home on the rail.  We are very impressed with Daiwa's much awaited graphite and aluminum body 2 speed.  These reels feature a unitized aluminum frame and left sideplate for enhanced strength and a dual disc drag with wet discs sandwiching a stainless rotor. They also feature Daiwa's CRBB bearings for extra corrosion resistance on the spool bearings plus four shielded stainless steel bearings (total of six). The unitized aluminum frame and left sideplate provide maximum strength and rigidity. The reels are "old school" like their tournament model above in terms of their shifting mechanism.  They use the Penn-style handle pull-out design that's proven functional if not necessarily stylish.  Their use of the aluminum frame enhancement is another proven feature. Folks expect to pay almost $200 for the Tiburon upgrade to Shimano TLDII reels.  The new Daiwa includes that enhancement and comes in a bit under the Shimano in price.

After spooling several of these new reels, there are a few things that really do impress us.  They have very, very good freespool.  In addition, they're turning a cool 20# or drag, and maintaining that freespool.  Daiwa did it right.
