The truth about DVD’s that come with newspapers and magazines in the UK & Europe. Dear Movie Collectors, I Sell for cancer. & I probably have the biggest catalogue of DVD’s on eBay distributed by newspapers. These DVD’s were available for 1 Day only. Afterwards gone. Of course those who paid £12 or $18 or 15 Euros for a movie in a standard box ,rebelled by saying these movies were rubbish. Some still swear by all the DVD Gods that only they have the “real” DVD. Sadly they are wrong. There are at least 6,000 ( six thousand ) titles already available like this allover Europe and UK. And the Collection goes on. What was first considered a waste, is now today very sought after. As always it takes time before we realize we should never throw away certain things.. Why are these DVD’s the “REAL THING” complete movies and very collectible ? Easy to understand. They are pressed in the same factories as all other DVD’s. It would be a -bad campaign- for the Newspapers to give rubbish with a Newspaper. Nobody would buy the next newspaper. I can name more or less 10 DVD titles released long time ago who are not that good in quality. Because the movies themselves were never restored and are in the public domain. Quickly the Newspapers realized their mistake. After that they only released quality DVD’s . Other question : Can you get the DVD’s after that One Day Only ? Yes, but it’s a costly affair. You need to buy 7 different Newspapers , cut out the Coupons and not only mail the coupons to the Newspaper , but on top you have to pay with a cheque £6,99 more or less 12 Dollars or 10 Euros, and wait 2 months to receive what you missed. And there’s a limitation in time to do so. How do Newspapers pay for all these Movie Rights ? Easy : they sell more Newspapers, so that day they charge more to Bigger Companies for the publicity they put in those Newspapers. As they can proof that their sales go up if they add a great Movie on DVD with the Newspaper. ( It’s true of course as the sales figures are there as proof ) Due to the Internet , sales of Newspapers go down. So this is a new Marketing Technique to attract buyers for the Newspaper. Advertisement is one of the main incomes for Newspapers. Adding a DVD, creates higher advertisement income. Bottom line , it has nothing to do with the Movie on the DVD, who’s perfectly genuine and complete, the movie is Perfect In Every Way. It’s pure 100 % a business strategy. Why in a cardboard sleeve ? Easy to understand. The flatter it is the more fits in a truck. By publishing and distributing it this way, it saves on cubic meters in volume , remember, that the United Kingdom is a big Country, so these DVD’s have to end up in many places. If they would release them in a standard box, this would mean many more trucks on the road allover the United Kingdom and that cost would be huge. Bottom line, the MOVIE is PERFECT , the rest is all genial Marketing and Economic thinking. All I can say is, buy smart. Buy cardboard sleeve DVD’s, they go UP in VALUE, whilst the others in a standard box seriously drop in price, look around you. I will never be able to convince some consumers. That’s not my work. I only want to explain how it’s possible to get these WONDERFUL collectable DVD’s released & what’s the Marketing idea and strategy behind it.
