Volume 1: Towards the end of the nineteenth century many British manufacturing companies jumped onto a revolutionary, new and growing bandwagon that was to help more and more people travel short journeys easily and quickly. This was in the new pedal bicycle business. Then in 1896 a Coventry firm called Bayliss and Thomas fitted a Belgium Minerva engine to one of their bikes and the Excelsior was born; the first British motorcycle to grace our roads. But they were unable to hold the monopoly for long, for by the turn of the century dozens of other manufacturers followed their example and the British motorcycle industry was born. In the two volumes of this documentary you will be able to see and hear about many of the very early models produced between the wars and afterwards. Much of the video you will see of the earlier motorcycles are pictures of the last examples of their type.To list here all the motorcycles you will be able to see in the two volumes of this set would take up far too much space as there are well over a hundred classic models to look at.
