[See below for more pictures]

 DETAILS: (Sherborne): Louis Henry Ruegg (first volumes), et al., 1877-1996. First editions. All to Volume 59 (1937) plus Volume 64 - original green blind-stamped cloth, with gilt lettering. Remainder in original wraps. Various paginations. Illustrated throughout, earlier volumes with occasional albumen prints, and a few hand-coloured lithographs. Cloth bound 8vo (standard sized books); Paper wraps and index 4to (large coffee table sized book - 8.75in x 11.75in). *This is a heavy item weighing over 2kg with packaging! Would non-UK customers please e-mail us for a shipping quote prior to bidding. The UK shipping rate is quoted below.

CONDITION: Very Good (see table below for details). All volumes: generally a solid set - Volumes 1-10: some scattered foxing to margins of Volume 1, less so to Volume 2, most free of foxing. Minor rubbing to cloth boards. Occasional dirt marks/minor stains to boards, but internally most works in very good condition. *Photo(s) given of actual book.

CONTENTS: A substantial local history resource, this is all but one of the Proceedings, lacking only Volume 79 for some reason. The set includes an index for volumes 1-110 (1876-1988). The index alone is 113 pages in length, which gives some idea as to the wealth of articles contained in the set.

It is impossible to give a complete list of contents, but here is a scattering of article titles: Catalogue of Sepulchral Pottery in the Dorset County Museum; Agriculture in Dorset during the Napoleonic Wars; The Pitt Family of Blandford St Mary; Anglo-Saxon Finds from Hardown Hill; The Invertebrates of Some Freshwater Habitats on the Axmouth-Lyme Regis National Nature Reserve; Artesian Wells in Dorset and Elsewhere; Journal of an Excursion to Eastbury in Bristol in 1767; Botany of a Dorset Parish; The Distribution of Squirrels in Dorset, 1945-1952;

A Biographical Account of some Dorset Entomologists; Observations on the Grey Phalarope' The Dartford Warbler in Dorset; Early Ecclesiastical Effigies in Dorset; Catalogue of Seal Casts in the County Museum; The Evolution of Bridport Harbour; External Growth of Sherborne School; Romano-British Burials at Kimmeridge; Clay Tobacco Pipes found in Dorset; The Weight of Water-Weed in the River Frome; Observations of Butterflies in the Purbeck Hills in 1976 and 1977; Dorset Bridges;

Poole's Ancient Admiralty Court; Chandeliers in Dorset Churches; The Status of Sika Deer in the Poole Basin; List of Portland Lepidoptera; Dorset Soldiers of theTudor and Early Stuart Periods; Dorset Children's Doggerel Rhymes; New and Rare British Spiders; Fossil Crocodile from Chickerell; Deer Parks of Dorset; Methodists in Thornford, 1869; Specimens of Birds in the Dorset County Museum; The Church Screens of Dorset;

Excavations at Halstock Roman Villa (multiple articles); Influence of the Roman Occupation on Modern Dorset; A Survey of the Breeding Birds of Purbeck; On Horsehoes; Geology of the Cale of Wardour; Bats in the Purbeck Quarries; Pipe Leases for Dorset; The Sequence and Evolution of Architectural Styles in the Church of Fordington St George, Dorchester; A Legend of Milton; The Dorchester Gallows; Eighteenth Century Dorset Shipping.

The index volume provides subject, author and title indexes. All the volumes have illustrations of some kind, including some attractive albumen plates in the first volumes, and a few hand-finished lithographic plate in the early works. Of great interest for local history and natural history collectors.
