This auction is for the rarely seen and fabulous black glass scent bottle designed around 1912 by Rene Lalique for Ambre by D'Orsay . It measures approximately 5.15 ins (13.2 cm) high and features a different moulded female figure on each corner. Its square stopper raised towards its centre features engraved flowers. The main part of the stopper and bottle are polished contrasting with the neck and top of the bottle and four figures which are opaque. The rim above the base is moulded LALIQUE on one side and AMBRE D'ORSAY on the opposite side as shown on the last two pictures. I don't know if you can see it (last picture), but the base of the stopper is engraved with a number 4.
This amazing piece, at almost 100 years old is in very good antique condition. For the sake of total accuracy I mention that it has three minute chips to two of the figures. Only one is bigger than a pinhead. There are also two tiny nicks to the corners of the stopper. They can only be seen on close study and because they have lost the opaque finish. This is a great opportunity, I believe, to acquire an outstanding design by Rene Lalique which is rarely available. It would make a unique gift or addition to a special collection. I'm happy to answer questions and receive constructive comments. I'm selling a number of items from my collection (mostly Lalique) so please visit again.
