Diktamos, sometimes called Dittany of Crete grows high in the mountains and it is said that wild animals and the native Kri kri will climb high in to the mountains to eat it when they are injured. The Ancients believed that diktamos would cure wounds and Afroditi is said to have come to Crete ti cure Aeneas when he was stabbed with a spear as taking diktamos causes the body to eject the weapon that has stabbed it!

Locally the herb is called 'Erontas' meaning 'Love' and the herb is said to be an aphrodisiac. Young people would climb high into the mountains to collect it as proof of their love for their loved one!

These days you do not have to go to such lengths as we do it for you and then package it into handy 10gm packs. These packs will last for ages as you need only a very small amount infused in boiling water for 7 or 8 minutes!
