This is a pastel portrait of a great screen actress and legend of Hollywood:

Deborah Kerr

This is an 11" x 14" Pastel.

Completed in green, orange and blue pastel.

Born Deborah Jane Trimmer in Helensburgh, Scotland, on September 30, 1921, she was the daughter of Captain Arthur Kerr-Trimmer, a soldier who had been gassed in World War I. She was educated in England, where she also developed a keen interest in acting and started appearing in amateur productions. A few years later, with the help of an aunt who was also a well known radio personality, she started appearing at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park, London. Soon after, she joined the Oxford Repertory Company from 1939 through 1940. In 1941 her big break came when British film producer Gabriel Pascal noticed Deborah and cast her in the title role of “Major Barbara”. Audiences loved her and she quickly became a sensation in Britain. Plum roles in such classic British productions soon followed: “The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp” in 1943, and the moody, “Black Narcissus” in 1947. Hollywood soon took notice and signed Kerr to appear opposite the great Clark Gable in the fast-paced “The Hucksters” co-starring starlet Ava Gardner. Throughout the 1950’s, Kerr continued to appear with Hollywood’s A-List in a variety of roles, starting with 1951’s sword and sandals epic, “Quo Vadis” opposite Robert Taylor. She won her first Oscar nomination for 1953’s “From Here to Eternity” with Burt Lancaster and Frank Sinatra. “An Affair to Remember” with good friend, Cary Grant; and “Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison” co-starring Robert Mitchum. The immortal “King and I” with Yul Brynner, and “Separate Tables” with Burt Lancaster and David Niven. She would receive six Oscar nominations. She left Hollywood in the late 1960’s, greatly disturbed by the excessive sex and violence in movies. She returned to the stage and also made limited TV appearances throughout the 1970’s and 80’s. Deborah Kerr now resides in Switzerland.

About The Artist

Born in Orange County, California, I have been an artist for over 30 years, and come from a family of artists.  My aunt was a published author; my uncle is a professional photographer; my mother was a portrait artist, a professional model and actress in New York City; my sister is an impressionistic artist and pianist; my nephew is an actor, graphic artist and D.J. in Los Angeles, California; and my son is a guitarist. I started my artistic endeavors through the guidance of my mother at a very early age.

My work has been shown in galleries, libraries and law offices, across the Country. Many of my portraits are owned by collectors from around the world. My work can also be viewed on the Ohio Arts Council website, a cooperative effort with the Columbus Metropolitan Library. My paintings decorate the homes of celebrities and notables. One of my portraits is part of the California State Capital Building Archives. I have also taught art at local colleges, and hosted my own drawing show on television. My Hollywood pastel portraits can be viewed on other websites dedicated to the memory of several famous celebrities.

I draw what I know and love: Old Hollywood.

I specialize in realistic portraits. My mediums are: pastel, oil, watercolor, acrylic, and pencil, but I prefer pastel. Each piece can take several days to complete. Great love and attention to detail goes into each portrait I create. Detail and originality is my trademark!

I complete works of art of the stars of the Silver Screen, Classic Hollywood. All in vibrant color!

My artwork makes a great gift idea.
