The rare genuine first edition of this, perhaps the most influential scientic book since Newton, a book which could genuinely be said to have changed the world. Bound in contemporary half charcoal morocco with blue cloth boards. Gilt spine titles. Raised bands to spine with gilt fleurons. Spine worn with some splitting to joints. Whilst in need of rebinding we have left this copy in its original state, however we would be happy to rebind it for any customer up to a cost of £500 included in the price. This should cover all but the most lavish of rebindings. The first edition with the correct issue points e.g two quotations on the verso of the half-title and the misprint "speceies" on p.20, line 11. Marbled endpapers. Half title loose and with s small chip to the fore edge. Tiny area of thinning to title page. Page block slightly cropped as usual with leather bound examples. ix, (1), 502 pages. Bound without adverts. Short closed tear to fold of chart opposite page 177. Chart also has minor splodge. A few leaves with minor nicks to fore edges suggesting they may have been loose in the past and tipped in again. Otherwise very tidy internally with no foxing. A few occasional anonymous pencil notes. At present in very original and untouched condition, but could equally be rebound in a fine leather binding. Freeman 373. Printing and the Mind of Man 344b.
